Tips for getting here
The Elbe cycle path from Schmilka to Hamburg is especially recommended to cyclists. In the Coswig area, almost 8 km of the path is asphalted. Cycling along the Elbe in the beautiful Elbe Valley, you can get to neighbouring towns (Meissen, Radebeul, Dresden) on flat terrain without being bothered by traffic.
Long-distance transport
The Coswig area is conveniently connected to the Saxon transport infrastructure by rail, motorways and the B 6 and B 101 federal roads, as well as by the Elbe (Hamburg – Dresden – Mělnik in the Czech Republic).
By car, it is just a few minutes’ drive to several motorways: the A4 (Chemnitz), A13 (Berlin), A14 (Leipzig) and the new A17 (Prague).
The S 84 takes you over the new Elbe bridge near Niederwartha for even faster access to the federal A4 motorway.
In Coswig there are two stops on the S-Bahn rapid-transit railway line: the stations at Coswig and Neusörnewitz.
Regional Deutsche Bahn trains also stop at Coswig station. Dresden’s central station and that at Dresden Neustadt are less than 30 minutes away by train, for connections to the national and international rail network – Deutsche Bahn timetable information.
Local transport
Local public transport includes trams, buses and the S-Bahn rail link.
Tram route 4 goes between Dresden and Weinböhla.
As most tram stops are in Coswig town centre, public transport outside that area and in the nearby surroundings takes the form of buses run by the Meissen transport company VGM.
Route R 400 serves Reichenberg, Dippelsdorf, Radebeul and Coswig; Route R 401 serves Meissen, Sörnewitz, Brockwitz and Coswig, Route R 402 serves Coswig and Neusörnewitz, and Route R 460 serves Grossenhain, Auer, Steinbach, Spitzgrund and Coswig.
Take Route R 400 from Coswig bus station and alight at “Gasthof Kötitz”, from where it is just a stone’s throw to our campsite.
The S-Bahn rail link provides local public transport from Meissen and Dresden to Heidenau, Pirna and Saxon Switzerland (S-Bahn Route 1).
In Coswig town centre, there is a ferry across the Elbe between Kötitz and Gauernitz. Ferry boat trips along the Elbe between Radebeul, Coswig and Meissen are also highly recommended and popular.
The “Bosel” can also be chartered for special-event trips.
